Palms / Palmas

Palms / Palmas
They pressed their palms to mine that morning,
warm and certain, fingers laced.
They spoke my name like a warning's opposite—
like something they were honored to taste.
I believed the architecture of their hands,
the way they fit so perfectly around my own.

By noon, the same palms were turned outward,
a wall of flesh between us.
Not pushing—just no longer reaching.
I watched them fold into pockets,
curl around coffee cups,
find other shoulders to grace.

By evening, those palms had learned new verbs:
to dismiss, to diminish, to deny.
The hands that had mapped my spine
now gestured vaguely in my direction
as if pointing at a stranger
across a crowded room.

How quickly the body forgets its own geography.
How swiftly warmth becomes a rumor.

Now I understand—
some people love with their palms open
only until they need to make a fist.
And the day turns, as it always does,
from holding to hollow,
from touch to testimony
of how easily we are put down
by the very hands
that once swore they would hold us up.

Ahora entiendo—
algunas personas aman con las palmas abiertas
solo hasta que necesitan hacer un puño.
Y el día gira, como siempre,
de sostener a vacío,
de tacto a testimonio
de qué fácil somos dejados caer
por las mismas manos
que una vez juraron sostenemos en alto.

La única que se quedó / The only one who stayed

La única que se quedó / The only one who stayed

No es cruel, ni es fría, ni es ausencia;

te dirá: "No temas, sigue andando. Aquí estoy para acompañar".

Do not fear the silent night,
nor the echo of your footsteps as you walk.

Do not flee from the silent calm
that teaches you, at last, to breathe.

We seek hands, accomplices, witnesses,
that will sign our truth with their skin.

We swear loyalty to friends,
to love, to any storm.

But love grows weary and becomes wounded,
friends finally draw their own map.

The crowd departs, distracted,
and the noise of others turns to sawdust.

And then you remain before the mirror,
without any disguise, with no one to turn to.

And in that clear, mirrorless instant,
is when you begin, slowly, to discover

that there is a companion who has not fled,
who never promised happiness.

She was present in your first heartbeat
and will watch over your final truth.

She is not cruel, nor is she cold, nor is she absence;

she is the silent witness of your being.

It is the foundation, the sole essence:
loyal solitude, until dawn.

She does not lie, she does not leave, she does not forget,
she does not ask you to be someone else, nor to change.

It is the purest form of life:
it will be yours, even upon passing.

At the end of the room, on the threshold,
when the curtain begins to unfurl,
only she, with her crystal cloak,
will tell you: "Do not fear, keep walking. I am here to accompany you."

Necessary Poison / Veneno necesario

Necessary Poison / Veneno necesario
I scratch your image onto flimsy paper,
a dying god whose temple is the till.
I curse your name, my indispensable traitor,
and worship you against my stubborn will.

You are the lock, and you alone the key.
You are the cage, and you are the open door.
You are the drought that withers every tree,
and the scarce rain that makes the green restore.

I loathe the perfume of your cold, green scent,
the clinking hymn of your disciples' praise.
I rage against the days for you are spent,
the crooked roads I travel in your maze.

And yet.
When you depart, the cupboards gape.
The landlord's knock becomes a judge's gavel.
There is no room for liberty or shape,
when every thought must fret and scheme and travel

to find you. For you build the bed for rest,
you pay the healer for a child's breath.
You clothe the back, you set the modest feast.
You are the mediator with the debt called death.

So I will keep you in a iron box,
and feed you from my labor, cold and thin.
Despised guardian of my private rocks,
I hate the lock, but need the key you're in.

Two enemies in the shadow.

Dos enemigos en la sombra. / Two enemies in the shadow.

Within my mind lies a battlefield,
two specters fight without truce or wall.

One is called Desire, fiery and ardent,
with dreams of fire and a burning pulse.

The other is Duty, serene and severe,
with its cold armor and its cold judgment.

One cries: “Fly!”, with longing and yearning,
the other whispers: “Think, this is not your heaven.”

Desire is a river seeking its course,
without law, without borders, without restraint, without a willow.

It is the voice of the soul, voracious and sincere,
the pure temptation, the first flame.

Duty is the wall, the law, the scales,
the ancient weight of trust.

It is the long shadow of what was promised,
the sure course, even though it has suffered.

They fight in silence, in every decision,
one with promises, the other with reason.

Desire brings pleasure, but sometimes ruin.
Duty brings peace, but sometimes suffocates.

Not every longing deserves a helping hand,
not everything logical heals the summer.

Sometimes Desire wins,
and then sows the lost harvest.

Other times Duty triumphs, with its precise order,
and the soul is left yearning for a heartbeat.

An echo of "what if…?" that never fades,
a subtle thorn that time cannot stifle.

Two intimate enemies, eternal adversaries,
in the same breast, two daily sanctuaries.

I learn, though slowly, to listen to both:
to Duty with respect, to Desire with fear.

Because only at the point where vigilance coincides
the awakened conscience that does not repent,
Desire is not an executioner, Duty is not a chain,
but two signals from the same way.
